September 11th,  2013 in the middle of the night the rain began to fall. Flood sirens went off and our intimate mountain town became isolated by the flood waters.
On September 12th at 10:12 am, a Lionscrest Staff member reached out to the Lyons Fire Protection District to gain an understanding of the Town’s conditions. She was told to relocate their weddings. Our next event was less than 36 hours away. Little did we know that after 19 years of weddings, the next three weeks would be some of the hardest times this family owned business would face.
Then, on October 1st, we received the call we were so waiting for. We were granted permission to reopen. Lionscrest Manor, which sits on top of a mountain and has it’s own well water, was left relatively unaffected by the flood waters. With passes, our couples were allowed to, once again, tie the knot.
On October 4th, Lionscrest Manor was able to host it’s first wedding. Krista, a Coloradan, was set to marry Samuel from the United Kingdom. After just over a year of planning, their dream to marry in Lyons, Colorado became a reality. To learn more about the Lyons Floods…
